Apprentice Research Technician (Bioinformatics)
Isomerase Therapeutics is a leading synthetic biology and bioengineering company based in Chesterford Research Park, Cambridge, with particular expertise in the discovery and development of microbial products and processes.
We are looking to fill an apprenticeship at the company working with Anglia Ruskin University (ARU). The role will involve one day per week at ARU studying towards a degree in bioinformatics. Fours days per week will be on site at Isomerase, working as part of a team in helping to develop next generation of microbial products. Your role will involve handling micro-organisms, genomic DNA extraction, analysis of microbial genomes and a wide range of other skills. Over time the role can develop and expand depending on the skills and interests of the apprentice. Tasks will include growth of a range of micro-organisms, generation of genomic DNA, generation and analysis of genome sequence data, general laboratory management and support of more senior scientific staff.
Additional onsite training will be provided in a variety of areas including health and safety, general laboratory skills, bioinformatics of micro-organisms, sterile technique, fermentation and DNA extraction. After qualification, there are a wide range of opportunities within Isomerase for further advancement.
